UASA did not attend this morning’s meeting of the Mining Industry Development Growth and Employment Task Team (Midgett) that had been called by Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane.

The NUM would like to also put on record the fact that we have held six or more formal consultations with the Department of Mineral Resources since the April 2016 gazetting of the draft mining charter, we're both parties that reflected and exchanged various ideas and proposals on a transformed mining industry.

Trade union Solidarity's National Executive Council (NEC) made the decision this morning to boycott the meeting of stakeholders and principals in the mining industry that was set up late on Wednesday afternoon by the office of the Minister of Mineral Resources, Mr Mosebenzi Joseph Zwane.

The release of the Mining Charter today is proof that the ANC government does not care about long-term and sustainable transformation in the mining sector. Version 3 of the Mining Charter will be a disaster for the mining industry.
