NUM notes the release of the Amended Mining Charter by the DMR

The NUM would like to also put on record the fact that we have held six or more formal consultations with the Department of Mineral Resources since the April 2016 gazetting of the draft mining charter, we're both parties that reflected and exchanged various ideas and proposals on a transformed mining industry.

The union is also looking forward to receiving a detailed progress report on actions taken by the Department against non compliant Mining right holders on the 2014 Mining Charter targets, as described in 2015 Mining Charter Assessment and inline with the Minerals and Petroleum Resources Development Act 2002. These transformational instruments must never be academic and government has a legislative responsibility to enforce compliance, thus it will be premature to start a new chapter without closing the 2010-2014 targets.

Once we have concluded our analysis on the Amended charter, we will release a detailed statement.
